    ABOUT

    OUR MISSION

We are dedicated to the preservation of the Snelling Courthouse, the first county seat of Merced County. We are committed to collecting, preserving, educating, and exhibiting the history of the early days of Merced County.

With the help of volunteers and docents from the Snelling Women's Club's Snelling Historic Courthouse Group we offer free tours of the museum to individuals, schools, and groups. A visitors' favorite is the jail section with cells preserved in arrested decay secured behind four foot sandstone block walls and forged iron bars.

We welcome donations or temporary loans of artifacts, photos, and documents pertaining to the history of the Snelling, Hopeton, and Merced Falls areas.
