RENOVATION PROJECT
The upper wooden section of the building was originally one long room where court hearings were held. It stood atop the four foot sandstone blocks where the jail and sheriff office were located. The upper wooden section had no tie-downs or anchors to the bottom section and had developed a noticeable lean to the east. Rain dripped through holes in the roof caused by missing shingles. The stair boards were cracked pulling loose from the moorings.
Plans donated by Golden Valley Engineering were followed to tie down the upper story and to make the building structurally sound so it could be re-roofed. The floor was milled from one large Sugar Pine log into tongue and groove boards. It took eleven years using mostly volunteer workers to complete the project.
